Inked, at last

Let it never be said that I'm scared of needles. Because apparently I'm not.

Dear Universe, I got inked - 10 days after the big 3-0. Haaa-leyyy-luu-yaaa. Halleluyahhh.

NS (mah old, old college buddy up in NYC) and I had loosely spoken about getting tattoos on several occassions. I also blogged about it. Then, in July this year, a few days shy of her 30th, she had a beautiful cherry blossom tattooed on her arm. The pressure was on!

What will be, will be.

An Explanation

I want not to worry about things not in my control. I did it for 30 years and it got me nowhere, except with a head half-full of grey hair. And that's what brings me to my new motto. The future's not ours to see. Que sera sera.

Debunking the Tattoo Myths

1. It does not hurt.

I'd describe the feeling like a persistent gnawing sensation on your skin.

2. Needles are disposable.

You are asked to look at the new needle being opened. In fact, I had decided that whatever happened, I would not set eyes on the needle, but that resolve didn't last too long.

3. Your tattoo artist is not a scary, dark, Gothic-like person.

Yes, he is emblazoned with tattoos. But like eyebrow threading, a skilled, light touch is what's important. Do your research on the artist you choose.

4. You do sign away your life.

Yes, there's paperwork to sign that basically states that if you die on that tattoo table, in the quest of pretty ink, they will not be liable.

5. There is some blood.

A little. It is, after all, a wound. You come home with a band-aid. The 2-3 day aftercare is important to the healing process, not to be ignored.

6. It is expensive.

I paid 100 bucks for 3 words. You also have to tip the artist.

7.The process is QUICK!

It only took 15 minutes. Choosing a font and getting it stenciled took longer!

8. It makes a loud BUZZZZZZZZZing sound

Like when you're at the dentist getting your teeth cleaned.

9. Be careful of Bone.

The closer to a bone you get, the more it hurts.

10. IT IS WORTH IT - 100%

Hey, visiting your blog from your comment on mine.
I got my tattoo in 2005 and still love it to bits. Yes, totally worth it, blood, pain and all.
Especially because I scared my folks by saying "its a skull & cross bones!" They finally loved it, they had to - its a leaf.

Hi..as there was no email id through which to contact you, I am answering the question in the comments section.
I have done few posts on how to start stories. Most stories start with a character who has a want/desire, that becomes the character's goal/objective. There is always something that stands in the way of that desire. That is the obstacle. This is where the antagonist/villain comes into play. The obstacles are the villain's way of thwarting the main character. And then there is the knockout ending where the main character gets rid of the obstacles to achieve his goal.
I am sending you two links to my earlier posts. Hope they can help.

Nice. An understated way of writing is just what I like the most. Maybe because I myself donot write that well but yeah I like the simplicity in the way you have written accounts from your life. Staying short of personal details still giving glimpse of it.

Also, on tattoo ... Aah. Maybe one day. Thats something I want for a very long time but then couldnt settle on what is it that I would want inked ... Way too particular I guess .. But thats how it is.

Anyways, keep blogging.

That's a cool tatoo. I was super squeamish and sceptical before i got inked. Mine was a slightly elaborate one of an angel and took around half hr.. but it didn't hurt one bit when the artist was at work..The next three days ,though the spot felt sore and I think i did run a temperature.
