What Women Want

Ever since Em (Meenakshi Madhavan) aka my favorite Blogger (well, one of) got back from her sabbatical in the hills of Ramgarh (a tiny village in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand) I have been longing, longing for one of my own as well. She was gone for over two weeks, during which she wrote and read and wrote. And if I'd had two more days this weekend, that's what I would've done.

80 miles away from Atlanta - Morganton, GA was tucked away in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. 10 miles up a single lane gravel road, several hairpin bends and rows of thick trees turning a deep shade of red later, we arrived at our retreat. It must be said that this weekend was several months in the making - the stars had to align for seven busy schedules to be in tandem.

I titled this post 'What Women Want' because really, that's what it was all about.

What women want is a Saturday stretching out ahead of them with absolutely nothing to do. Except maybe soaking in the crisp mountain air and "shooting the breeze" - pun intended considering how windy it was.

What women want is community cooking. It really aint that bad when you're chugging wine and sharing recipes together.

What women want is to be able to beat up Kim Kardashian so bad that if you haven't seen her you'll be convinced that she looks much like a dull jute bag - with a big ass. Add Kareena Kapoor to the list too.

What women want is to be able to talk, talk and talk - read 4:00am bitching because really, what else could you possibly do at 4:00am. Note, a pact was made and signed in blood - thou shalt not repeat what was said, not even to thou's husband.

What women want is to be able to freely talk about their period without hearing gagging and fake puke noises in the background. Seriously, men will be boys.

What women want is to play "Dirty Minds" and learn that what gets harder the more you play with it is a Rubik's Cube.... what were you thinking?

What women want is to roast corn over a fire on a chilly night.

I really could go on but will end with my favorite -

What women want is to survive and get repaired a dead car battery, 48 hours later. To know what a jumper cable is and to peer confidently under the hood. To discuss plausible reasons that would do a seasoned mechanic proud. To maintain good cheer even as help arrived 3 hours later.

To keep the faith and the friendship. That's what women want.

Intriguing! I've been trying to figure this out for quite some time. But not all women are the same. Nice read!

only a woman can understand another woman
ticking of all the "wants" on your list & love the feel of the last line "to keep the faith & the friendship"

I'm with you on the Kim Kardashian thing. lol I love that you did this. What fun! I have to admit to a bit of jealousy. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my post today. Very rarely do I post stuff like that. Most times it's just fun stuff. Hope to see you again soon.

hi, nice one. reminded me of one that I started with exactly the same heading, but at another space.

I loved reading some of your lists, sounds like I would love to join in some of them.

I have never lived abroad, hence I would not know some of the experienced you have talked about. I can add some of mine, like:

lying on a charpai in the middle of a desert village in rajasthan in chilly november nights with the women of the village, listening to their stories and may be even sharing their hukka (smoking pipe),

sitting on a balcony which has either endless open field in front or a river ... with a hot cup of tea and my mac or my notebook and no TV please.

lying naked under a tree in a jungle under a star lit night listening to the sounds and also feeling scared of being intruded upon.

nice blog, nice post. will come back for more.

and oh yes, thank you for voting for my post in indiblogger.
